A Workshop to Remember!
Last Saturday morning I was invited as a blogger to a baking workshop organised by All Malaysian Bloggers Project and Malaysia Institute of Baking(MIB). The workshop started at around 9 am with a short briefing from the CEO of MIB, Don Yong. In the beginning he was actually quite surprised to see guys in the workshop (I guess he was expecting a group of attractive housewives since most people were from cloveTWO's contest =P). From the 45 minutes long briefing, I only remembered 3 things due to my short-term memory (paiseh) and those 3 things are the "things" that we were going bake - a personal size Moist Chocolate Cake, a tray of funny looking Buns and a few giant bags of Chocolate Chip Walnut Cookies.
After the briefing, we were directed to the kitchen for some live action. This whole thing actually reminded me of my science lab while I was doing my BsC. Instead of wearing lab coat, I was wearing apron =P. I was assigned into group 10 where I met up with another blogger, Thomas and his wife. At first I felt kinda awkward, but later I found out that they were even more awkward than me. Anyway, I was really glad to be in group 10 as Thomas' wife actually know what we needed to do (Thomas & I were basically clueless throughout the workshop =P). Another thing I would like to say about group 10 is that we really deserve a trophy for being the most "generous" group, we had traded our perfect chocolate batter with other groups for something less perfect (accidentally) without complaints, we had borrowed our beloved tools to other groups for countless times and we even willlingly gave one of our chiffons away! Thumbs up for Group 10!
Let's start with the buns, we actually three different types of fillings to choose from (red bean paste, sausage and tuna). Honestly, I don't really care what's the fillings inside since I'm not going to eat them. However, I was quite particular about the designs. All the designs look almost the same (dull), out of boredom Thomas and I experimented on a design that's way out of the world! Too bad I was too occupied to take any pictures of it. The only thing I can say is that it looks like a basket of sausage with tuna inside. =)
After the buns, we started walking the path of Famous Amos. Yes, that's right, time for cookies! I don't like saying this, but cookies are easy. Even those organising dudes (Michael & friends) were having a great time in pushing walnuts onto the cookies =P. Those dudes were actually quite smart as they were utilizing everything they can lay their hands on....like the walnuts! Damn, how come group 10 didn't think of that! =(
The last part of the workshop was the icing of the Moist Chocolate Cake. Everyone was having fun making their own pattern, it's like kids in art class and the imagination was wild!
From left (above):
1)Thomas wanted to make a chocolate rose (but it looks like "something else") right at the middle
2)Simple & Tidy pattern done by Thomas' wife
3)Star fish pattern by "idunnowhoisit" (Michael perhaps?)
4)The sunshine pattern by yours sincerely
Before packing and dividing our loots, we took a picture of all the 5 bloggers with Michael from AMBP to prove that we were once certified baking-bloggers!
From left: Debbie, Tammy, Michael (front), Yours Sincerely (behind), EffectiveParent and Thomas
A picture of all the participants, as you can see it looks like a Pandu Puteri Club, there's only one row of real men in front (and the one sitting in the middle of course).
CloveTWO also gave some goodies to the participants in the end. I can use some of the food coupons, but I don't think I need the manicure and padicure coupons yet to infiltrate the female community. =P
